Runners take part in Cardiff 5K on bank holiday weekend

Runners from Cardiff and afar took part in the capital city's annual 5K race on Sunday evening (30 March) in the village of Whitchurch, which also hosted both the Welsh 5K Road Racing Championships and Inter Area Match.

The event was further accompanied by a vast array of street food stalls, live music stage and so much more, holding the local community at its heart.

The day also marked a men's course record, with Omar Ahmed, a regular on the South Wales Road Racing scene, beating Jake Smith's 2022 time of 13:59 by a matter of just four seconds, followed closely by Richard Allen (13:56), George Couttie (14:09), and Kenji Nener (14:09).

Pontypridd Roadents AC member Clara Evans was the first woman to cross the finish line, at 15:54.

One runner, who took part in the run, told The Cardiff News:

"The race was absolutely fantastic! It was really nice to see such a mixed group of runners taking part in the event, alongside a huge crowd of supporters that made the atmosphere extra special. I think the community spirit played a very large part in what made the evening so great."
